Michael Baumert is an associate in Barnes & Thornburg’s Chicago office. As a member of the Intellectual Property Department and Corporate Department, Michael focuses on technology-driven transactions, sourcing, cloud computing, and mergers and acquisitions.

Michael frequently counsels clients on data privacy issues and the implementation of global data protection laws and regulations. He has experience drafting privacy notices, policies, and disclaimers, terms of use, as well as internal procedures and practices to comply with privacy laws.

Michael counsels clients in technology and intellectual property transactions, and has developed a focus on blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, autonomous vehicles, machine learning, and other artificial intelligence-related concepts. In addition to counseling, his work also includes negotiation of data-driven agreements, software and technology licenses, as well as intellectual property, privacy and cybersecurity diligence for mergers and acquisitions.

Michael, a native of Poland, also assists U.S. and Polish clients in connection with their business pursuits in the United States and Central Europe.

Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, Michael was an IP and technology transactions associate at an international law firm in Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

Prior to becoming an attorney, he worked as a software engineer designing and developing business intelligence, warehousing, and customer relationship management software.

During law school, Michael served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Deborah A. Robinson, magistrate judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
